Creating vs. Joining a PlayerKit Account Using the App

The first screen in the PlayerKit mobile app offers three buttons — Sign in, Create account, and Scan your login code — and only one of them starts something brand new. This article walks through which one is actually right for you.

The short version: if your club invited you or you're linking a player, don't tap anything on this screen — use the invite link your club sent you instead. "Create account" is only for starting a brand-new club.

Step by step

Which button is yours?

Step 1

Open the app. The opening screen shows three options: Sign in, Create account, and Scan your login code. Nothing here is permanent until you finish a flow, so it's fine to back out and start over if you pick the wrong one.

Step 2

Already have a PlayerKit account? Tap Sign in. This covers anyone who's created an account before — whether that happened on the web or in the app — including guardians who've already joined a club or linked a player. See Signing In to PlayerKit on the Mobile App for the details.

Step 3

Joining a club, linking a player, or accepting guardian consent? None of the three buttons on this screen do that — the app has no join flow of its own yet. Open the invite link your club emailed or texted you instead; it opens in your phone's browser and walks you through joining, linking your player, or accepting consent there. Once that's done, come back to the app and tap Sign in with the account you just set up.

Step 4

Starting a brand-new club? Tap Create account — this is the owner/founder door, and it creates a new organization with you in charge of it, on a standard trial. You'll either get a passwordless email code or fill in a name, email, and password, and then name your club as a last step before you're in.

Step 5

Setting up your child's own phone? Tap Scan your login code instead — but only after you, the guardian, have already linked that player and generated a login code for them. Your child points the camera at the code (or types it in), and it signs them into their own account. No password, no account creation — the code just expires after 15 minutes and works once.

Step 6

Whichever door you used, you land in the same place: your home tab, with everything tied to your account — schedule, requirements, and your club or club(s).

Quick reference:

"Sign in" — you already have an account, any account.

"Create account" — you're founding a brand-new club.

"Scan your login code" — a child signing into their own already-existing account.

Joining a club someone else runs — always the invite link they sent you, on the web, never one of these three buttons.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Troubleshooting

I tapped "Create account" by mistake — I just wanted to join my kid's team.

Back out before finishing (don't name a club or submit), then find your club's invite email and use that link instead. If you already finished and ended up with a brand-new, empty organization you didn't mean to create, contact PlayerKit support so it can be cleaned up — it won't affect your ability to join the real club afterward.

I don't have an invite link.

Ask your club or coach to send one. If they've given you a join code instead of a link, see Join a Club for how to use it.

My child's login code isn't working.

Login codes last 15 minutes and can only be used once. Ask the guardian who set up the player to generate a fresh one.

Can I set up my child's account for them on my own phone, from the app?

Linking a player to your account happens on the web — see Link a Player to Your Account. Once that's done, you can generate a login code for your child's own device, which is what "Scan your login code" is for.
